Services at Sceptre MarineWe find the refit and repair business very interesting. From minor jobs of a day or two's turnaround to $100,000 refurbs and offshore preparation to building Dragonboats and custom tooling for other builders, there is never a dull moment! We offer a full warranty for our work, charging out at lower rates than current industry standards and this has led to a growing repeat business. Our clients value the expertise Jeff brings to all his projects and appreciate his advice and willingness to go the extra mile to get the project completed on time and on budget. We live in a rapidly changing world. Exchange rates do not currently favour the building of North American products - particularly semi-custom sailboats! So we have gradually transformed our business from a boat building business to a service and repair business for all manner of types and sizes of boat - basically anything that floats. This process has been an easy one for us. The satisfaction from creating a new boat has been replaced by the satisfaction of making an older boat look new again - a job well done either way.
Recent projects involved the refurbishing and upgrading of a Beneteau 50 and a major rebuild to Phoenix 38, the victim of a hurricane at points south. A centre cockpit Whitby 42 was brought in for a custom windshield and hardtop enclosure. We do minor repairs for local dealers, who need a source for commissioning boats after they have been shipped from points East. Shelter Island Marina is a popular destination in the Lower Mainland for cross country boat moving firms as there is ample yard space and the travelifts located there can handle most pleasure craft up to 80 feet.
In February 2007 there was an unexpected emission of dust from the neighbouring concrete factory. Nearly every boat in Shelter Island Marina was affected. Sceptre was appointed to do the cleanup work on masts and rigging. Kudos to our employees who were rapidly retrained to work at great heights with long scrubbing brushes. Fortunately none of them had a fear of heights!
On this site there are several information pages about the types of projects we undertake, along with some slide shows of past work in the Picture Galleries. Hopefully your boat will not need all of these services - at least not all at once!
