Electrical Systems - Upgrades & Green EnergyMost electrical systems work we do involves upgrading - adding wire to handle more equipment - rewiring or rebundling of wires to satisfy safety requirements - adding to battery capacity by increasing amperage - battery monitor and charging systems - upgrading alternator size - adding green energy systems such as solar or wind.
When your boat was originally built the electrical system was designed to accommodate the loads and usage of its original equipment. Chances are several more items have been added since then. If your boat has had several owners you may find that there are all manner of wiring installations. Some perfect and some down right dangerous!! The thing to remember with electrical systems is that new additions put stresses on the systems elsewhere and the importance of considering the picture as a whole cannot be understated. So it a very good idea to sit down and review your current use and your anticipated requirements prior to upgrading to new equipment. For instance a windlass or bow thruster installation may need a dedicated battery or a larger capacity battery bank, which in turn may mean the master switch needs to be upsized for a larger amperage and a larger alternator to feed the larger bank may be required. Some wiring may need to be resized in order to accommodate heavier loads.
We have a great deal of experience installing sophisticated electrical systems, which provide maximum power with minimal monitoring required. So if your partner wants to run a hairdryer while you are using the bow thruster and the air conditioning is running while the toaster is on and someone else is reading charts on the laptop - come see us - we will outline what is required to accomplish your goals.
